The proposed Splash Park at the corner of Pleasant and North Streets is well under way, thanks in large part to the $25,000 matching fund that The Bank of Bennington announced this past summer. That initiative gave the project the traction needed to bring in other donors, large and small. The Catamount Rotary Club and the Promise Community both stepped up with significant donations separate from the matching fund.
The Bank’s $25,000 matching fund has now been reached. It was the key factor in getting construction underway in October 2018, as that donation allowed the project to be deemed “shovel ready,” with fundraising continuing, the plan is to open the park in the summer of 2019.
A splash park is an interactive public park with fountains, lights, and landscaping that invite people passers-by to linger stop in our downtown, encourage children to play in the water spouts, and overall act as a community gathering spot. Because downtown playgrounds and park spaces are heralded as a key element of downtown revitalizations, the Grow Bennington Initiative partnered with Catamount Connections, The Town of Bennington and The Bennington Downtown Alliance to re-imagine the 14,000 sf park.
While The Bank of Bennington match has been met, further fundraising is needed to complete the park. You can still donate at: GoFundMe.com/growbenningtoninitiative or send your check made out to BBC to the Bennington Downtown Alliance, 215 South Street, Bennington, VT 05201 with “Grow Bennington Initiative-Splash Park” in memo. Naming rights for the park and key elements of the park are also available.
The Bank of Bennington is a mutual bank with deep commitment to the area. It is the only bank headquartered in Bennington County, with branches in Arlington, Manchester, and Rutland.
